New analysis reveals massive growth in Denmark’s robotics industry

Denmark’s robotics industry is world-leading. Today, the country’s robotics industry employs 8,500 people and generates EUR 2.4 billion in turnover. In 2025, turnover can grow to EUR 7 billion annually and the number of employees can reach 25,000. The figures come from the first ever analysis of Denmark’s robot and automation industry and its contribution to the country’s economy.

The first ever figures on the growth potential of Denmark’s robotics and automation industry are revealed in a new report published by Damvad Analytics. According to the analysis, the industry can generate EUR 7 billion in turnover and employ 25,000 people in 2025 – a three-fold increase in just six years.

“The Danish robotics industry is a global market leader today in the development and production of robotics technology. If we’re able to maintain our current market position, the industry can generate EUR 7 billion in 2025. That would put the robotics industry on a par with other well-established industries such as food and fashion in terms of turnover. Now it’s about continuing the growth, so we can realise the industry’s potential for the benefit of Denmark,” says Mikkel Christoffersen, spokesperson for the national partnership, Robotics Alliance.

R-19: Robotics summit in June

Building on the success of last year’s R-18, this year’s robotics summit will examine the ways in which robotics and drones shape our society. Explore the summit’s four tracks and gain insights into today’s trends and challenges, pitch for investors by signing up for this year’s Investor Summit, learn how the UN Sustainable Development Goals can open new markets for Danish robotics and gain inspiration on how we can increase robotics exports further by working even closer on a cluster level.

R-19 will take place on 25-26 June 2019 at Odense Congress Center and the HCA Airport. The two-day conference will feature presentations, demos and workshops in four tracks that will discuss how robotics can create a positive impact on today’s global challenges. The four tracks consist of: Export Summit 19, UAS Denmark’s International Drone Show, Angel Investor Meetup 19 and Odense Investor Summit 19.

"R-19 will explore new ways in which we can employ robotics to solve some of the challenges our society faces. Odense is a city where many entrepreneurs are focused on rethinking how technology can be applied to benefit the world we live in. This is why we have come together to once again show exactly how robotics and drone technologies can help us move forward," says Mikkel Christoffersen, Odense Robotics.

Good response to robot hero campaign
A new brand story for the cluster was launched last year with the aim of attracting tech talent to companies. Since then, ‘Where robot heroes grow’ has been rolled out online and at events to reach potential candidates in Denmark and abroad, with many companies actively telling the story. Now a new digital campaign is targeting key candidates in Europe and early results show a good response.

Spots still open. Upskill your employees now
Through tailored training, the programme “Vækstrettet Kompetenceudvikling”gives companies the opportunity to ensure their employees get the necessary skills to contribute to the company’s growth. The majority of the project’s spots are taken, but there’s still room for a few more companies.

Newtec hero
Meet Martin Hejnfelt, Development Engineer at Newtec
“I’ve been working with technology since I was about seven, when I got my first computer which was a Commodore 64”, says Martin Hejnfelt, Development Engineer at Newtec. Since then he has been working with technology and electronics.

Newtec makes weighing and packaging machines for the food industry. The same software components are used for both the weighing machine and the packing machine – even though they do two completely different things.

“This is what I love about my job here at Newtec. We have a lot of impact on the technology we use. It’s in my DNA to mess with technology and tinker with electronics”, Martin explains.
